FIELD NOTES:
Autumn winds from the south east slowed the hawk migration and pushed grey
clouds in front of the sun. Mist clung to the brightly colored valley and
the earthen smell of rotting leaves lingered in the air.
The cry of an American kestrel rang out along the ridge top when he was disturbed
from a hard won meal. Flying low through the trees the brightly colored bird
scolded the intruder. He circled back to reclaim his prize.
