Red-talied hawk photographed at WildCat Ridge Hawkwatch.

The Red-Tailed hawk is the largest hawk in the United States and is a member of the Buteo family.

"Cool crisp winds roar through the trees on this late November day. High above the ridge line hangs a red tail hawk suspended in the sky. The magnificent bird makes small adjustments to its winds to maintain position. The hawk‘s eyes scan the forest floor through the bare trees. With a slight lean to one side the bird allows the wind to carry itself further down the ridge on a quest for food."
