This Red-bellied woodpecker photographed at
Wildcat Ridge Hawkwatch was a bit shy around people but very assertive
with the other birds of the area. The bottom picture shows a bit of
red on the lower belly which is not a good field mark for identification
but must be how the bird got its name.
